

This is a story I won’t forget, and if you’re okay with some darker themes, then I definitely recommend this one.

It is heartbreaking and memorable as a result of Chamberlain's restrained telling of a cleverly-plotted, riveting story neither of her narratives. I think I read this entire book in just two sittings. The Last House on the Street is a powerful commentary not just about the continuing struggle for voting rights, but also on racism, social injustice, and the freedom to love whomever one chooses. I loved the writing, the mysterious plot, the fascinating characters – even the setting had me glued to the page. Also, the cat’s point of view was just so good. It keeps you on your toes the whole time, with every chapter revealing something new. But I thought it was so gripping and well-done. The Last House on Needless Street is certainly not for the faint of heart, and I would recommend checking the trigger warnings first. But if you are, then you’re in for a twisty, creepy story that you won’t be able to put down.

If you’re not into dark thrillers/horror novels, this may not be the book for you.
